Design flexibility

The first six years of every boy and girl are full of changes. Of course, even in more mature years the child grows and changes, but in the first years of the baby’s and the young child’s life, the changes are significant and very noticeable from month to month, so their environment also needs to grow and grow along with them.

Design flexibility is one of the most important rules in developmental design.

With a little creativity and the right choice of the furniture we buy, we can create an environment that will accompany us for years.

In order for this to happen, here are some tips:

Don’t buy everything at once

One of the most common mistakes that happens is that we prepare the baby’s room even before he is born or during the first year and fill it with everything that is needed for the following years as well. All of this creates a load and often leads us to unnecessarily buy a lot of things that over time we realize we don’t need.

Therefore, it is recommended to purchase the various furniture and accessories little by little, according to the stages of development and as needed.

invest in what will accompany us

If you’re going to invest, it’s worth investing in things that can accompany us for years.

Tables that can be lowered and raised, neutral carpets that will suit any design style and that can be washed and laundered, flexible seating areas and more.

Dual use

It is highly recommended to invest in furniture that allows double use, such as:

– A low bed that will be used by the child both in the first year and after that.

– The subsequent changing table can be a dresser or storage for games and toys.

– A mirror that can be placed in a balanced way in the first years, at the height of the baby, can become a standing mirror for the dressing area or the costume area.

– A library with both low and high compartments, which will allow books to be placed at a height later or, alternatively, will be used to place personal objects in the child’s personal area (I will devote a special post to this 😊).

Modularity is the secret of the matter

Modular furniture can adapt to the stages of development and height of the child.

A temporary design touch

In order to complete the design, you should use temporary and inexpensive accessories that add a ‘design touch’ and can be easily replaced over time,

Like pillows, interesting bedding, dolls, etc.

And it also connects to what we put on the wall – it’s good to hang pictures that are easy to replace and change and / or wallpapers that are neutral enough to accompany us for several years.
